“Jem. Don’t feel you have to keep this inside...please tell me if you hurt….I want you to be happy, I care too much about you to let you hurt...okay?.....I ....I love you too much to let you hurt.”

“Peter…... I love you, Peter…”

He watched her face with sympathetic eyes, not truly realizing what impact his words had. To Peter, this was as much a fact as the sky was blue or the earth was round. He loved her and had no other thought but to love her as much as he did.
Peter waited patiently for Jem to think, to perhaps consider what he had said. Maybe she would let a little more of the sad out, not keep it trapped inside for her alone to bear with. He was here, she had no need to hold it by her lonesome.
Her response surprised him, the man not expecting to be reciprocated in his sentiments, but it made him slowly smile and a warm rush filled his body.
Peter gently tilted Jem’s chin and kissed her, closing his wings around the Dewott to hold her close and safe.
